Just a few days ahead of the festival’s opening, we are pleased to share the first-ever Méliès d’Argent short film selection at Wench Film Festival.

For the first time, Wench Film Festival joins the Méliès d’Argent circuit with a competition dedicated to the Best European Fantastic Genre Short Film. As the Méliès International Festivals Federation, we are honoured and proud to bring this competition to a major country such as India.

Wench Film Festival 2026 will take place in India, with screenings in Kolkata from 19 to 22 February and in Mumbai from 26 February to 1 March 2026.

The official selection for the Méliès d’Argent – Short Films competition includes:

  • Islander, directed by Margarida Saramago, Portugal
  • Hotel Acropole, directed by Sarah Lasry, France
  • Dormant, directed by Niels Bourgonje, Netherlands
  • Coyotes, directed by Said Zagha, France / Palestine / United Kingdom
  • OK/NOTOK, directed by Pardeep Sahota, United Kingdom
  • UNWELL WOMAN, directed by Daniella DeVinter, United Kingdom
  • Beauty Sleep, directed by Jasmine Emma De Silva, United Kingdom

The Méliès d’Argent competition highlights European-produced short films in the fantastic genre and forms part of the international network promoted by the Méliès International Festivals Federation.
These films represent some of the finest examples of European fantastic cinema, competing for recognition within the Méliès d’Argent network. Winners will later compete for the Méliès d’Or at Sitges 2026.
