The winners of Razor Reel 2024
For over a decade, the Razor Reel Flanders Film Fest has been part of the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF). Each MIFF member organizes an annual Méliès d’Argent competition for the best European fantastic short film, celebrating exceptional quality and creativity. Winners gain unique visibility through the Federation’s festivals, including its supporting members, helping them reach audiences worldwide. Additionally, every Méliès d’Argent winner competes for the prestigious Méliès d’Or Award.

The winner of the Méliès d’Argent Award for Best European Fantastic Genre Short Film at Razor Reel
Flanders Film Fest, is “Bye Bear” by Jan Bitzer (Germany 2023). The 80s. A run-down motel. This is where a secret club of robot friends gather regularly to live out their dreams of being something else. They share a desire to be animals. On this night, it’s a goodbye party for one of them. This friend will change and leave for good.
The jury—film scholar Kathy Vanhout, Kinepolis marketer Dieter Blarinckx, and director Bob Colaers—commended the competition’s diversity, offering something for every viewer. They ultimately awarded “Bye Bear” the prize for its originality, concept, and music, which fully immersed the audience in this remarkable short film.
Razor Reel Flanders Film Fest is part of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, an association currently consisting of 31 film festivals, whose mission it is to promote European fantastic cinema around the globe. The Méliès d’argent is awarded to short films for cinematic quality and creativity. The winning short film at TerrorMolins qualifies for the competition for the Méliès d’or.
