The 15th edition of the Ramaskrik Film Festival turned Oppdal into Norway’s horror capital once again, celebrating its anniversary with the biggest lineup in the festival’s history. From bamboo horror to canine nightmares, cult Norwegian titles, and internationally acclaimed directors, this year’s program offered a thrilling mix of fear and imagination across 37 feature films, two short film programs, and special anniversary events — including an outdoor screening of Trollhunter and a pool screening of Jaws.

Among the highlights, Ramaskrik also hosted the Méliès d’Argent short film competition, the official Norwegian stage in the European race for the Méliès d’Or.

Méliès d’argent Award Winner – Short Films @ Ramaskrik 2025

The Quinta's Ghost

The winner of the Méliès d’Argent Award for Best European Fantastic Genre Short Film at Ramaskrik is “The Quinta’s Ghost” by James A. Castillo (Spain, 2025).

Isolated at La Quinta del Sordo, Goya battles illness and dark visions, channeling his inner turmoil into the Black Paintings while surrendering his peace and sanity to eternalize his suffering.

The jury, consisting of Alexandre O. Philippe, Rebecca Howard, and Line Klungseth Johansen, carefully considered the entries and selected a standout film for its originality and artistry.

The prize goes to a film that the jury mutually agreed had the most original perspective with the greatest artistic achievement. The film we selected had a beautiful and disturbing aesthetic, with nightmare imagery that won’t easily be forgotten. Its story also took on the singularly unique point of view of a house: a house that becomes haunted, not through any violent death or satanic possession, but through the very ghosts of the man who lives within it. The film we award the Méliès d’argent is The Quinta’s Ghost.

Ramaskrik is part of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, an association currently consisting of 33 film festivals, whose mission it is to promote European fantastic cinema around the globe. The Méliès d’argent is awarded to short films for cinematic quality and creativity. The winning short film at Ravenna Nightmare qualifies for the competition for the Méliès d’or.
