The winner of Abertoir Horror Festival 2025

Abertoir is an annual horror and horror film festival held in the Aberystwyth Arts Centre in Ceredigion, Wales in November. The festival began as a three-day event and has grown since to a six-day schedule. Abertoir is also a long-standing member of the Méliès International Festivals Federation.
As well as screening new big-budget horror films, classic and independent films form a large and important part of the festival line-up. Each year a short film competition is held, which showcases horror and fantasy short films from around the world. In addition to film screenings, the festival regularly features concerts, theatre shows and masterclasses in its line up.

Méliès d’argent Award Winner – Short Films @ Abertoir Horror Festival 2025

The winner of the Méliès d’Argent Award for Best European Fantastic Genre Short Film at the Abertoir Horror Festival is “Grandma is Thirsty“, directed by Kris Carr (UK 2025, 14 min).
All George wants is to stop getting pushed around by the local bullies. So when a pair of weird twins offer to introduce him to their grandma — who can “make him big & strong” — he jumps at the chance. One problem: she’s 600 years old and keeps herself young the unnatural way.
Abertoir is part of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, an association currently consisting of 33 film festivals, whose mission it is to promote European fantastic cinema around the globe. The Méliès d’argent is awarded to short films for cinematic quality and creativity. The winning short film qualifies for the competition for the Méliès d’or.
