The Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF) has the great pleasure of welcoming two new festivals as competitive members: Curtas Festival do Imaxinario and the Galician Freaky Film Festival. Both festivals are based in the Spanish region of Galicia, in Vilagarcía de Arousa and Vigo respectively. Both festivals will run the short film competition for the Méliès d’argent for the best European short film, starting in 2026.
About Curtas Festival do Imaxinario
Founded in 1973, Curtas Festival do Imaxinario is the oldest festival and the largest event dedicated to fantasy, science fiction and horror cinema in Galicia. Located in Vilagarcía de Arousa, Curtas Festival do Imaxinario is a must-see for enjoying the premieres of the best feature and short genre films, as well as a wide range of parallel activities that include exhibitions, meetings, presentations, workshops, concerts, international guests and much more. All artistic expressions of the fantastic genre converge in the International Fantastic Film festival of Galicia. Its upcoming edition takes place from 24 October to 2 November 2025.
About Galician Freaky Film Festival
The Galician Freaky Film Festival is the definitive freak cinema and culture event. Founded in 2017, the GFFF has rapidly become a must-attend date on the international genre circuit. Based in Vigo, this International Freak and Fantastic Film Festival showcases carefully curated short films often deprived of conventional distribution, featuring world and international premieres previously unseen in Galicia. Through collaborations with festivals across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, GFFF has built a reputation for exceptional audience experiences and remains the only festival worldwide that subtitles all foreign films in Galician. Its most recent edition took place from 19 to 27 September 2025.
