Slash Vienna and Fantaspoa Porto Alegre Introduce the Méliès d’argent Feature Film Competition

The Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF) announces that Slash Filmfestival Vienna (23 September – 4 October 2026) and Fantaspoa – Porto Alegre International Fantastic Film Festival (8 – 27 April 2026) will now include the Méliès d’argent Feature Film Competition alongside the short film competition within the Federation. It marks the first time that the feature film competition will be organised outside Europe.
With this addition, both festivals will host not only the Méliès d’argent Award for Best European Fantastic Short Film, but also the Méliès d’argent Award for Best European Fantastic Feature Film, further strengthening their role within the MIFF network.
As a result, the Méliès d’or Feature Film competition will now bring together ten films, each selected through the Méliès d’Argent competitions organised by ten affiliated festivals across the Federation.
Slash Filmfestival Vienna is the second largest genre event in the German speaking world. It has established itself as one of Europe’s most dynamic genre events, known for its bold programming and strong connection with contemporary fantastic cinema.
Fantaspoa, held annually in Porto Alegre, is the most important festival for fantastic film in Latin America, with a programme that bridges European and global genre production.
The introduction of the feature film competition at both festivals reflects the continued development of the MIFF network and reinforces its mission to promote European fantastic cinema worldwide.
