Grossmann 2025 Announces Méliès d’Argent Short Film Competition Lineup
From 18 to 28 September 2025, Vienna will once again host SLASH Filmfestival, one of the most vibrant genre film events in Europe. Known for its eclectic programming and strong visual identity, the festival dives deep into the dark and fantastical realms of cinema. As an Competitive Member of the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF), SLASH presents the competition for the Méliès d’argent for the Best European Short Film in the fantastique genre. The Méliès d’Argent celebrates short films that push creative boundaries, redefine genre storytelling, and reflect the diversity of the European imagination. This year, six short films from across the continent have been selected to compete.
The 2025 Méliès d’Argent competition lineup at SLASH:
This year’s short film selection highlights the diversity and creativity of new European voices. The lineup includes:
- 9 Million Colors – Bára Anna Stejskalová (Czech Republic)
- Unwell Woman – Daniella DeVinter (Sweden)
- Don’t Be Afraid – Mats Udd (Sweden)
- Hotel Acropole – Sarah Lasry (France)
- Grandma Is Thirsty – Kris Carr (United Kingdom)
- The Shyness of Trees – Bingqing Shu, Maud Le Bras, Jiaxin Huang, Simin He, Lina Han, Loïck Du Plessis D’argentré, Sofiia Chuikovska (International co-production)
The winning short will qualify for the Méliès d’Or competition, which annually crowns the best European fantastic short film across the MIFF network.
