The Ravenna Nightmare Film Festival, one of Italy’s established festivals dedicated to horror, fantastic and dark cinema, returns in 2026 with a new edition in Ravenna. As a member of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, the festival hosts the Méliès d’argent – Best European Short Film competition, giving European genre filmmakers the opportunity to compete for one of the federation’s awards.

Méliès d’argent – Best European Short Film

This year’s selection brings together ten fantastic short films from across Europe and beyond, representing a variety of approaches to contemporary genre cinema:

  • Lick Me – Elizabeth E. Schuch, United Kingdom/Argentina/Brazil, 2026
  • Breeders – Suri Grennel, Ireland, 2025
  • Lollipop – Riyaaz Roy, Germany, 2026
  • Reyes Malos (Three Wise Maniacs) – Kail Grösser, Spain, 2026

The Méliès d’argent winner will be announced and awarded on Saturday, 17 October 2026. The winning film will then continue its journey in the Méliès International Festivals Federation network, qualifying for the Méliès d’or, the federation’s annual award celebrating European fantastic cinema.

As part of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, Ravenna Nightmare contributes to the promotion and circulation of European fantastic cinema through the Méliès d’argent competition. The winning film will qualify for the Méliès d’or, the annual award celebrating the best European fantastic feature and short films selected through the federation’s network.
