September 7, 2020 – Last night, the the 36th Imagine Film Festival awards were presented in Amsterdam.

The Black Tulip Award @ Imagine Film Festival

The Mortuary Collection (2019)

The Black Tulip Award went to The Mortuary Collection by American director Ryan Spindell.

 

From the jury report:

This debut, in which Ryan Spindell fuses four short stories in a mix of black humor, horror and Lovecraftian monsters, shows that he can skillfully tell a film story that never gets boring.

 

A special mention was given to Ryan Spindell’s The Twentieth Century.

Koirat eivät käytä housuja (2019) Dogs Don't Wear Pants

The Méliès d’argent for the best European feature film went to the Finnish Dogs Don’t Wear Pants (Koirat eivät käytä housuja) by Jukka-Pekka Valkeapää.

 

From the jury report:

An emotionally complex and psychologically layered film about grief that uniquely explores the pain of loss and letting go and shows that sometimes comfort lurks in unexpected corners.

 

A special mention was made to Resin by Daniel Borgman.

The Méliès d’argent for the best European short film went to Koekoek from Jörgen Scholtens.

 

From the jury report:

A film that is not only technically well put together, but also has an intelligent script that surprises and takes the viewer into a special relationship.

 

A special mention was made for Francisco Lacerda’s Karaoke Nights.
