Méliès d’Argent Award Winner – Feature Film @ Imagine 2025

Imagine Announces Méliès d’Argent Winners 2025

The winner of the Méliès d’Argent Award for Best European Fantastic Genre Feature Film at Imagine is “The Last Viking” by Anders Thomas Jensen (Denmark, Sweden, 2025).

A bank robber released from jail must unlock his traumatised brother’s memory to recover stolen loot.

The Jury enjoyed the diverse range of films, but one stood head and shoulders above the rest. Not only did it manage to strike a clever balance between drama and comedy, it did so without resorting to painful stereotypes about mental disorders.

The Jury consisted of filmmaker Jasper ten Hoor, animator Hisko Hulsing and Katrien Lamers, cinema director of De Fabriek.

Two creatures meet on a tree. Their encounter goes deep down to the roots and beyond.
Stop motion animated short film 2025, currently touring around film festivals.

Amid a highly diverse selection, a melancholic short depicting an encounter between two lonely creatures stood out to the Jury. This heartwarming tale urges us to do what we all need most: show true interest, connect and grow together.

The Jury consisted of director Malu Janssen (who won this award last year), creative producer and designer Ragna Margarita and festival programmer Thomas Streekstra.

The competition is organized in collaboration with the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF) and is open to European-produced short films in the fantastic genre. The award is given to the short film that receives the highest number of votes from the audience.

Imagine is part of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, an association currently consisting of 33 film festivals, whose mission it is to promote European fantastic cinema around the globe. The Méliès d’argent is awarded to short films for cinematic quality and creativity. The winning short film at Imagine qualifies for the competition for the Méliès d’or.
