The 36th San Sebastián Horror and Fantasy Film Festival has officially kicked off today, October 31, 2025! Among the highlights of this year’s edition is the Méliès d’Argent competition for Best European Short Film, showcasing the most exciting voices in European fantastic cinema.

This year’s shorts competing for the Méliès d’Argent are:

  • Algues noires – Nathan Vaillant, France, 17 min
  • Borbulha – Fernando Alle, Portugal, 5 min
  • The Brute / Das Untier – Tove Stille, Austria, 19 min
  • Come Sit With Us / Ära ole uhke – Elis Rumma, Estonia, 14 min
  • Buffet Paraíso – Héctor Zafra & Santi Amézqueta, Spain-France, 8 min
  • Dieu est timide – Jocelyn Charles, France, 16 min
  • Faèuk – Maida Srabović, Croatia-Slovenia, 13 min
  • Lucus – David Fidalgo, Spain, 13 min
  • Mater Benefacta – Marc Riba & Anna Solanas, Spain, 12 min
  • Solipsiae – Marco Manzoni, Italy, 8 min

The festival runs from October 31 to November 7, opening with Gaua by Paul Urkijo Alijo and closing with Primate by Johannes Roberts.

San Sebastián continues to be a central hub for horror and fantasy cinema, and the Méliès d’Argent competition highlights the best European fantastic short films of the year. Winners will later compete for the Méliès d’Or at Sitges 2026.
