HÕFF 2025: Méliès d’Argent Short Film Competition
The 2025 edition of the Haapsalu Horror & Fantasy Film Festival (HÕFF) has officially concluded, marking another successful celebration of genre cinema in the unique and atmospheric setting of Haapsalu, Estonia.
As a proud member of the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF), HÕFF hosted the Méliès d’Argent competition for Best European Fantastic Short Film, showcasing 10 standout titles that represent the bold creativity and diversity of contemporary genre filmmaking across Europe.
The 2025 Méliès d’Argent competition lineup at HÕFF:

Winners of the Méliès d’Argent will go on to compete for the prestigious Méliès d’Or, awarded to the best European fantastic short of the year by the Méliès International Festivals Federation.
HÕFF continues to grow in reputation as one of the most distinctive film events in the Nordic region. Organized in collaboration with the Black Nights Film Festival in Tallinn and the Haapsalu Culture Center, the festival offers audiences in Estonia and neighboring countries a chance to experience international horror, fantasy, sci-fi, and cult cinema—both classic and contemporary—in a historic venue steeped in character.
The winning film of the Méliès d’Argent competition at HÕFF 2025 will move on to compete for the Méliès d’Or, awarded annually to the best European fantastic short film.
