Méliès d’argent Award Winner @ Grossmann 2025

The winner of the Méliès d’Argent Award for Best European Fantastic Genre Short Film at Grossmann Fantastic Film and Wine Festival is “The Pearl Comb” directed by Ali Cook.
In 1893, an endearing Cornish fisherman’s wife is the first person to ever cure someone of Tuberculosis. A doctor, hell bent on proving a woman’s place is in the home, is sent to investigate her miraculous claim – only to discover the source of her unearthly power…
The jury – consiting of Ramona Sehr, Jurica Hizak and Vitomir Kaucic said:
“A raw and eerie folk tale exploitation piece that walks the line between myth and menace with total confidence. The visuals are stunning, the performances magnetic, and the whole thing is so thick with atmosphere that we swore we could smell the salt in the air.“
Grossmann Fantastic Film and Wine Festival is part of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, an association currently consisting of 33 film festivals, whose mission it is to promote European fantastic cinema around the globe. The Méliès d’argent is awarded to short films for cinematic quality and creativity. The winning short film at Grossmann qualifies for the competition for the Méliès d’or.
