Galician Freaky announces Méliès d’Argent winners 2026

Founded in 2017 and based in Vigo, Galicia, Spain, the Galician Freaky Film Festival (GFFF) is an international festival dedicated to freak and fantastic cinema and culture. Over ten editions, it has established itself as a distinctive event on the international genre film circuit, presenting carefully curated works that often remain outside conventional distribution channels, including world and international premieres previously unseen in Galicia.
Through collaborations with festivals across Europe, Asia and the Americas, and its membership in leading international federations, GFFF has developed a distinctive identity. It is also the only festival in the world to subtitle all foreign films in Galician.
And the winner is…

JURY STATEMENT: The GFFF jury has decided to award the Silver Méliès to the short film Breadsong, by Katariina Aule, for its exceptional visual craftsmanship and the perverse narrative elegance with which it portrays human greed.
The winners of the Méliès d’argent competitions qualify for the Méliès d’or, the annual award celebrating European fantastic cinema.
