Fantaspoa Announces Méliès d’Argent Winners 2026

For the first time, Fantaspoa – Porto Alegre International Fantastic Film Festival presents both Méliès d’Argent awards, recognising excellence in European fantastic cinema across short and feature films. With the introduction of the Méliès d’Argent Feature Film Competition alongside the established short film competition, the festival further strengthens its role within the Méliès International Festivals Federation.
This milestone marks an important step for Fantaspoa, expanding its contribution to the promotion of European genre cinema on the international stage and bringing together two competitions that highlight creativity, innovation and cinematic quality.

Méliès d’Argent Award Winner – Feature Film @ Fantaspoa 2026

The winner of the Méliès d’Argent Award for Best European Fantastic Genre Feature Film at Fantaspoa is “Gaua (The Night)” by Paul Urkijo Alijo (Spain, 2025).
Kattalin enters a forest filled with mythical creatures, exploring nighttime folklore and 1600s superstitions.
Méliès d’Argent Award Winner – Short Film @ Fantaspoa 2026

The winner of the Méliès d’Argent Award for Best European Fantastic Genre Short Film at Fantaspoa is “Glory Hole” directed by Andoni Fernandez (Spain, 2025).
A man uses a glory hole and then is asked to fulfill his life’s purpose.
Fantaspoa is part of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, an association currently consisting of 35 film festivals, whose mission it is to promote European fantastic cinema around the globe. The Méliès d’argent is awarded to short films for cinematic quality and creativity. The winning short film at Fantaspoa qualifies for the competition for the Méliès d’or.
