Fantaspoa 2025 Announces Méliès d’Argent Winner

The 21st edition of Fantaspoa International Fantastic Film Festival has officially wrapped, and with it comes the announcement of this year’s Méliès d’Argent winner for Best European Fantastic Short Film.
As the only South American member of MIFF, Fantaspoa continues to be a key platform for celebrating and promoting European fantastic cinema in Latin America.
The 2025 edition featured an impressive lineup of 42 European short films, affirming the festival’s dedication to genre innovation and artistic excellence.

Méliès d’argent Award Winner @ Fantaspoa 2025

The winner of the Méliès d’Argent Award for Best European Fantastic Genre Short Film at Fantaspoa Film Festival, is “L’essence de la sirène” directed by Jessica Puppo.
As she struggles to cope with the loss of her older sister, Essie finds herself alone with her father. In the lake that borders the family home, she discovers a mysterious mermaid, which feeds only on gasoline.
Fantaspoa Film Festival is part of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, an association currently consisting of 33 film festivals, whose mission it is to promote European fantastic cinema around the globe. The Méliès d’argent is awarded to short films for cinematic quality and creativity. The winning short film at Fantaspoa qualifies for the competition for the Méliès d’or.
