The winner of the Méliès d’Argent Award for Best European Fantastic Genre Short Film at FANT Bilbao is “Game Over” directed by Adrian Cacciola.

Sunday afternoon is Scrabble day for an elderly couple. The sunny scene opens with the old man’s hateful inner monologue as he is forced to take part for the umpteenth time in a ritual he loathes. His wife meticulously sets up the game, ignoring his exasperation. But the game suddenly intensifies when the old man realises that the words being played are
becoming reality.

The Melies d’argent went to Game Over by Adrian Cacciola, “for demonstrating that any daily routine can unleash our homicidal instincts,” according to the jury. As such, Game Over is automatically qualified for the Méliès d’Or competition, the award for the best European fantastic genre short film.

FANT Film Festival is part of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, an association currently consisting of 33 film festivals, whose mission it is to promote European fantastic cinema around the globe. The Méliès d’argent is awarded to short films for cinematic quality and creativity. The winning short film at FANT qualifies for the competition for the Méliès d’or.
