The Feast

The Feast
Lee Haven Jones
UK 2021, 93 minutes

A family gathers in their luxurious contemporary home made of glass and steel in the Welsh mountains. The matriarch is hosting a dinner with her political husband on behalf of a businessman hoping to buy land in the area for mining. The family's two grown children are reluctant dinner guests. The family's values and beliefs are challenged by the arrival of Cadi, a young woman they have hired to serve as an overnight maid. Her presence grows in strength and the family's behaviour becomes increasingly extreme. Though rooted in Gaelic folklore, “The Feast”'s themes are universal and contemporary – family and history, greed and responsibility, identity and difference – and speak to environmental urgency in a way that only a horror film can aspire. World premiere at SXSW 2021.
