Ramaskrik Film Festival
October 17, 2024 | October 20, 2024
Ramaskrik is a horror film festival nestled in the mountains of Central Norway. Set against the backdrop of towering peaks famous for "trolls," sheep, and musk-ox, we create the perfect atmosphere for screening international films, festival circuit highlights, Norwegian premieres, short films, work-in-progress sessions, and four days of bone-chilling fun in Oppdal.
We take pride in our loyal and dedicated audience from all corners of the country. In 2018, MovieMaker magazine honored us as one of the "30 Bloody Best Genre Fests in the World."
What sets the Ramaskrik Film Festival apart is its unique location and the fact that most attendees travel to Oppdal. Once you arrive in Oppdal, you're immersed in the festival experience until you depart—a sense of community that both our audience and invited film guests appreciate.
Some of our notable guests in recent years include Corin Hardy (The Hallow), Alexandre Phillipe (78/52, Doc of the Dead, Memory: The Origin of Aliens), Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Lair), Tony D'Aquino (The Furies), Mick Garris (Critters 2, Riding the Bullet), Alexis Kendra (The Cleaning Lady), Brian Yuzna (Re-Animator, Society), Roar Uthaug (Cold Prey, Troll), Clare Cooney (Departing Seniors), André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe), and Tommy Wirkola (Leave).
Oppdal, one of the largest local councils in Central Norway, is situated between the majestic mountain regions of Dovrefjell and Trollheimen. Over 55% of the area is designated as a national park or protected landscape. Oppdal boasts the country's largest sheep ranges, hosting around 45,000 sheep in the mountains each summer, vastly outnumbering the population of only 7000. You might recognize the region as the setting for the Norwegian horror film Troll Hunter, as Oppdal is just north of where the trolls supposedly roam.
