Lund International Fantastic Film Festival, Sweden was founded in 1995 with the overall aim to help stretch the limits of the imagination, and to reinforce the intrinsic value of imagination in films. International competitions are held for both feature films and short films, and the festival also offers retrospectives, seminars and exhibitions related to fantastic film.

Since 2002 the festival awards the Méliès d'Argent to the best European fantastic feature film as well as a nomination for Méliès d'Or for best European fantastic short film. Since 2005 the festival also hands out the Finn the Giant award for outstanding contribution by a filmmaker in the fantastic genre.

Among the guests who have visited the festival are; Jack Hill, Brian Yuzna, Shinya Tsukamoto, Forrest J. Ackerman, Veit Helmer, Xavier Mendik, Richard Stanley, Marc Evans, Terry Gilliam, Eva Röse Peter Greenaway, Marc Caro, Corey Feldman, Niel Gaiman, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Juraj Jakubisko, Alexandre Aja. Lucky McKee, Danielle Harris, Jennifer Ulrich and John Howe.

Lund International Fantastic Film Festival is a non-profit organization and its financing comes mainly from membership fees and box-office receipts. Additional funding comes from local and national corporate sponsors, the City of Lund, and the European Commission Media Plus Programme.

In 2007 Lund International Fantastic Film Festival hosted the Méliès d'Or Award Ceremony.
