And the Melies d’argent winner of the Ravenna Nightmare is…
Méliès d’argent Award Winner – Short Films @ Ravenna Nightmare 2024
The winner of the Méliès d’Argent Award for Best European Fantastic Genre Short Film at the Ravenna Nightmare is “Playing God” by Matteo Burani (Italy, 2024).
In a shadow-filled, chaotic laboratory, where mysterious clay creatures pile up, a tormented Sculptor works on a new and ambitious creation. Driven by a distorted vision, he decides to abandon it, deeming it unworthy and imperfect.
Rejected as a failure and surrounded by the deafening voices of the other creatures, the sculpture tries to follow its creator, but ultimately destroys itself. In the act of self-destruction, it finally finds acceptance among the other forsaken works, embracing a shared fate of marginalization and disillusionment.
Ravenna Nightmare is part of the Méliès International Festivals Federation, an association currently consisting of 30 film festivals, whose mission it is to promote European fantastic cinema around the globe. The Méliès d’argent is awarded to short films for cinematic quality and creativity. The winning short film at Ravenna Nightmare qualifies for the competition for the Méliès d’or.
